A close look at EvolutionSix Fat Loss Formula supplement

The packaging for EvolutionSix Fat LossFormula claims that it's quality nutrition for faster results with green tea and garcinia cambogia. Supplements are not monitored by the FDA and any health claims made are not subject to regulation beyond saying 'not evaluated by the FDA'. So how effective should this product be based on an evaluation of the ingredients?

Let's take a look.

Vitamin B6 aids in the synthesis of hemoglobin and enhances oxygen binding to hemoglobin. Toxic doses of dietary supplement Vitamin B6 for extended periods of time can result in neurological issues. As such this should not be taken with any Vitamin B complexes for additional Vitamin B6 supplements.

It won't help you lose weight, but in the levels present in the Fat Loss Formula there will not be any negative side effects – except very potently scented urine and possibly sweat.

Iodine (from kelp) serves an important role in helping regulate the thyroid. Most people struggling to lose weight probably know the importance of the thyroid in managing weight to a certain extent. In developed countries iodine is added to table salt and while this has reduced problems iodine deficiency is still a problem. This may be even more of a problem for people who are dieting as they avoid salt and may not know what foods are high in iodine – or even that they need foods high in it.

This will not help someone lose weight, but getting enough iodine into the diet in important to stave off physical and mental illnesses which can cause weight gain. Iodine toxicity is a problem though, especially in selenium deficient people – which this supplement contains none of.

Chromium(III) picolinate is necessary for glucose to be used properly in the body, however, deficiency is rare. The human body already process glucose properly and if it is not, doctor's intervention is needed, not a non-FDA approved supplement. In addition the EvolutionSix packaging warns not to take this supplement with other supplements due to chromium toxicity concerns. Studies on the toxicity of chromium(III) are variable but seem to point to poor absorption of the substance meaning it's really, really hard to overdose on it.

A poorly studied addition to this supplement that probably offers no benefits your body isn't already accomplishing on its own and may be dangerous to one's health.

Guarana (33% extract/100 mg of naturally occurring caffeine) contains twice the concentration of caffeine found in coffee beans. If someone wants to get a concentrated dose of caffeine, guarana is a good way to do it. It's used in a number of energy drinks such as Rockstar and Monster. Caffeine provides energy and stimulates the nervous system. This can make a person temporarily more active until the caffeine leaves the body. At which point they may feel a sudden tiredness.

For those who do not consume caffeine, this can be problematic as they are likely to suffer adverse side effects such as anxiousness, restlessness and trouble sleeping. For those who do ingest caffeine, taking this pill in addition to normal caffeine amounts may produce the same problems. It can also cause a dependence which results in withdrawal headaches and irritation when attempting to go off the pill.

Cocoa extract (98% theobromine) has a similar effect to caffeine on the human body. Theobromine and caffeine are related alkaloids, but theobromine has a lesser impact on the nervous system – this means less anxious, twitchy side effects than caused by caffeine. It also leaves the body at a slower rate which reduces the crashing effect caffeine causes for some. It has therapeutic uses as a vasodilator, diuretic and heart stimulant.

In theory these effects could help aiding weight loss and due to the lesser impact on the central nervous system, and the slower rate at which it leaves the body, it has less negative side effects than caffeine. When mixed with caffeine that really defeats the purpose though.

Yerba mate powder contains mateine, yet another type of caffeine. In the amount present in this capsule, it likely amounts to about 5 mg of additional caffeine. Yerba mate has been shown to slow gastric emptying, meaning those using it feel satiated and full longer after each meal. This can cut down on snacking.

Studies on yerba mate are severely lacking, but it seems to be harmless especially in the amount present.

Green tea leaf (98% extract) naturally contains caffeine, but at the amount included in the EvolutionSix Fat Loss Formula it's less than 1 mg. Green tea is associated with reductions in cardiovascular disease when consumed daily, however, at the rate present in this capsule, it's worthless.

There is nothing to indicate green tea helps with weight loss. If someone wants to get the cardiovascular benefits of green tea, drink a cup of green tea each day for four times the amount of nutrient content.

Garcinia cambogia leaf (50% HCA) is more easily looked up by the name garcinia gummi-gutta as garcinia cambogia is a former scientific name. Garcinia gummi-gutta was endorsed by Dr. Oz, but that's about all it has going for it. Multiple clinical trials found no compelling evidence for short-term weight loss. It also poses a risk of liver damage in supplements since there is no clinical trial or safety measures taken for these supplement – one supplement was pulled from the market for liver damage already.

A useless ingredient that uses an outdated but media sensationalized name, does nothing useful for the body and may pose some harm.

Chitosan (90% deacetylation) supposedly limits fat absorption and may be sold independent of mixtures like EvolutionSix Fat Loss Formula as a 'fat binder'. But trials have shown no significant effect. Other possible dietary supplement potentials are being studied, but have no conclusive evidenc for or against.

Yet more filler ingredient that doesn't actually do what it claims to do for weight loss according to trials. If someone really wants to reduce fat absorption, FDA-approved and scientifically proven orlistat will accomplish that.

Gymnema sylvestre leaf powder has not been studied enough to really make any claims about. It has shown that it might help people lose weight in conjunction with hydroxycitric acid and niacin-bound chromium, but further studies need to be done to confirm early research. It may also act as a laxative and diuretic, but further studies need to be done for this as well.

At least unlike chitosan and garcinia gumi-gutta there are no studies disproving this plants effectiveness at helping weight loss? That is not really a ringing endorsement for its useful inclusion in this or any diet supplement though.

Banaba (1% extract) is cultivated as an ornamental plant as its white to purple petals are quite attractive when it blooms. Unstudied claims hold that it lowers blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes. But the only thing this plant is proven to do is be pretty.

More unstudied, untested junk.

Calcium pyruvate is pyruvic acid mixed with calcium. Pyruvic acid has trials that show it may be effective at assisting weight loss, but the studies conducted had methodological problems. The trials also identified side effects such as gas, bloating, diarrhea and other intestinal upset problems.

Ratings for calcium pyruvate uses, safety and effectiveness are all from third-party people who claim it's part of a 'medically supervised diet plan' which is a load of bunk since doctors don't hand out poorly studied herbal treatments with unpleasant side effects in most developed countries. This seems an attempt to boost the credibility of weight loss supplements that use this filler.

Apple cider vinegar has long been touted as a natural weight loss aid by causing a person to feel fuller longer. Studies about that are lacking though studies do show it may have antifungal properties.

If someone really wants to use apple cider vinegar, it makes a better hair conditioner and acne drying product than oral use product.

Grapefruit powder could be being used on the idea that it would inhibit the effect on the metabolism of some of the other herbs located in EvolutionSix Fat Loss Formula. Grapefruit has been shown to do this with some medications, and is being researched for this effect as it could mean using less medication for the same effect, but its usefulness with this random assortment of largely useless herbs is questionable at best.

No studies seem to indicate grapefruit has anything to do with weight loss.

Coleus forskohlii root powder is the newest 'wonder drug' advocated by Dr. Oz to burn fat quickly. As always, anything advocating quick changes is probably too good to be true and needs more study.

Forskohlin is used in labs to induce birth defects in zebrafish embryos for testing purposes. Effects on human fetuses are unknown. Beyond this lab use, it has been tested as a weight loss or body composition supplement. Two small tests showed different results; one showed men had higher testosterone and higher bone density, another showed women had no changes at all.

White willow bark powder is a pain reliever and blood thinner. When synthesized in a lab, we call it aspirin.

This serves no purpose in promoting weight loss, but in the small dosage its presence in it could assist with discomfort and inflammation following new exercise routines.

Uva ursi leaf powder is used for bladder infections most commonly. More studies need to be done to prove its usefulness. None of its uses, confirmed or otherwise, include weight loss. Long-term, more than a month, use can lead to liver damage and eye problems.

Cannot figure out what this is doing in EvolutionSix's Fat Loss Formula, but it's another untested herb filling the capsule.

Juniper berry powder is used for digestive health, heartburn and urinary tract infections. As with most of the other herbs included in this capsule, it needs more study to actually confirm its usefulness for any of these things. Long-term or high doses can lead to kidney problems.

Buchu leaf powder reportedly has diuretic and antiseptic properties, but no medical studies at all could be found to support this.

Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin which dilates the blood vessels and encourages better circulation, oxygenation of the organs and nutrient delivery to the organs. Capsaicin is clinically tested and shown to do this.

In theory this can help with weight loss, but in the low amount present in the Fat Loss Formula, it may be completely negligible.

After going over and evaluating the usefulness of each of the ingredients in EvolutionSix Fat Loss Formula, it doesn't look like it's going to be useful for anything. Worse, it may actually pose dangers to some people, especially the target market who are overweight or obese and more likely to suffer from diabetes or high blood pressure. People who are taking medication, especially for diabetes or high blood pressure, are pregnant or trying to become pregnant should definitely not start taking it without consulting a doctor due to the negative interactions some of the ingredients have with medication and potential fetal damage.
